We've got a bunch of new features released this week in Skyreader:
Bring your own RSS app
Two-way collection syncing with and
Make connections with your reading on
Import your reading library from other services
And more!
Bring your own RSS app
Already have an RSS app you love? Keep it. Skyreader now works as a sync service for apps that speak the Google Reader / FreshRSS API (e.g. NetNewsWire, Reeder, ReadKit, Unread, etc.).
To set it up, make an app password in Settings -> Other reader apps and then add the Skyreader API in your supported app. Check the docs for full instructions.
Once connected your subscriptions, folders, and read state all stay in sync. Starring an article in the app also saves it to your Skyreader library.
This works for all the kinds of subscription sources Skyreader supports, not just RSS: standard.site publications, email newsletters, and Bluesky likes and bookmarks all work great.
Connect on Semble
One of the most powerful ways to deepen your understanding of the things you read is to form connections. Last week's update added notifications of connections other people made and now we're making it easier to form your own connections.
When you finish reading an article you can see a suggested article you recently read with an offer to connect or to pick something else:
The connection picker gives you full control over the type of connection along with the ability to add a note:
You can also create connections from the link menu so you can record relevant connections while you read:
Sync collections with Semble and Margin
Last week's update added the ability to organize your library with collections. This week you can now link a Skyreader collection with a public Semble or Margin collection. The link is two-way so adding something in Semble/Margin will show up in Skyreader and vice versa.
You can either link an existing Skyreader collection or import one from Semble/Margin:
Note that collection syncing only works for URLs so uploaded PDFs/EPUBs never leave Skyreader.
Import your library
If you've been using another read-it-later app, you can now bring everything over. Go to Settings -> Saved articles -> Import saves and upload the export you get from Pocket, Omnivore, Instapaper, Readwise Reader, or Matter. See these instructions on where to get the export files.
This feature is a bit more experimental so let me know if you run into any issues on the feedback board. Also, let me know if there are other services you'd like to see supported.
